Erie Advances Green Initiatives with eCargo Bikes from CyclErie

Erie, CO – July 29, 2025 – The Town of Erie is embracing sustainability with two Benno 46er electric cargo bikes, acquired through a $9,000 grant from the Colorado Energy Office. This pilot program aims to reduce vehicle emissions, enhance operational efficiency, and promote eco-friendly transportation by replacing car trips between town offices.

Purchased from CyclErie, Erie’s first bike shop and the Front Range’s leading electric bicycle retailer, the Benno 46er features a robust Bosch Mid Drive motor with 85nm torque and a 500wh battery, offering a 60-70 mile range. These Class 1 eCargo bikes, capped at 20mph with pedal-assist, ensure safe travel on Erie’s bike paths. Town employees, traveling roughly 1,300 miles yearly between offices, will use these bikes to lower fossil fuel use while inspiring residents to adopt sustainable practices.

“We’re proud to support Erie’s eco-friendly vision,” said DJ Johnson, CyclErie’s General Manager. “The Benno 46er is ideal for reducing emissions and enhancing efficiency.” Contact DJ at info@cyclerie.net or 720-235-8660 for more details.

Erie will track bike usage and report metrics to the Colorado Energy Office, showcasing the program’s impact. To encourage residents, Erie offers a $100 water bill discount for eBike purchases, fostering a greener community.
